Argentina rejects three-way talks on Malvinas Islands

By Agencies in Buenos Aires, Argentina | China Daily | Updated: 2013-02-02 08:09

Argentina on Thursday rejected Britain's offer to hold three-way negotiations on the fate of the disputed Malvinas Islands, known to the British as the Falklands, saying the issue was between the UK and Argentina.

Argentinian Foreign Minister Hector Timerman declined to meet in London with a British government delegation and representatives of the Malvinas Islands to discuss who has rights over the islands.

In an open letter to British Foreign Secretary William Hague, who proposed the talks, Timerman regretted Britain's refusal to hold trilateral discussions, saying that only a bilateral meeting between Argentina and the UK would be acceptable.
